There is a place in Southern Colorado that is very special. It is an area that is not on the tourist maps and unless you have made an effort to visit it you would have missed it entirely. Most likely you would have just cruised right on by on the Interstate as you went through Triniad or Walsenburg. Located in Southern Colorado from Trinidad Colorado west on Highway 12 to Stonewall then north past Monument and North Lakes and the cute western town of Cuchara up to La Veta and to Highway 160 then back to Walsenburg. Then take Interstate 25 from Walsenburg back down to Trinidad.
The Scenic By-way from Aguilar over Cordova Pass and the San Isabel National Forest past the Trail Head to the West Spanish Peak and then on to Highway 12 Cuchara Pass is like taking a step back in time seeing Colorado as it was many years ago. This road is not open except during the summer and early fall so plan your trip then.
These photos were taken by Charlie Barks who has been the Broker and Agent for Adobe Gold Properties since 2001 and having lived in this area since 1995 he has learned a deep appreciation of this incredibly beautiful area. By no means is he a professional photographer, just inspired by the Colorado Landscape, the local architecture, living life out West and most importantly he is inspired by his life partner Barbara. From the big open skies and the sunrises to sunsets Charlie finds pleasure everyday in this beautiful area of Southern Colorado and he calls this home....and heaven on earth.
Bottom line is that Charlie hopes that you enjoy these glimpses and captured "moments in time" of the local area and hope that you can come and experience this awesome beauty yourself. These photos are only a primer to help you have an idea of what you will see or to remember what you have seen. Please take the time to comment on the photos if you are so taken to do so. Thanks for stopping by...!
